The road so far… or how I decided to start a web admin service.

Why did I decide to start a blog management service? Well, mainly it’s because I realized I had mad skills to offer my fellow creative entrepreneurs. Over the course of my career, I have worn a lot of hats. Fashion Designer, Researcher, Marketing Manager, Weight-loss Coach, and now a Wedding Planner. In all of these positions I have somehow ended up managing blogs and websites for myself and for the companies I work for.

I designed my first websites when I was in highschool, using HTML in Notepad. It was pretty rudimentary stuff, but I was able to create customized websites for club events and for my design portfolio!

In 2006, I set up my first WordPress blog & bought the domain to host my costume & fashion portfolio, Kairi G Design, which I regularly updated and managed up until 2013.

My first few WordPress sites were on their free blogging platform, WordPress.com. When I started researching SEO to grow my traffic and get more freelance clients, I quickly discovered that WordPress.com blogs were great for hosting my hobby portfolio, but not ideal if I wanted to leverage my web presence to grow a business.

Fast forward to 2017. I have been steadily growing my Wedding Planning business, Folie à Deux Events, and managing the websites of three companies at my day job as a Marketing Manager, and the blog and store for my mother’s company, KayLynn Designs. For some people, that would be a full plate, but I am ridiculous.

I realized that many of my fellow small business owners and creative entrepreneurs were having a hard time keeping up with their websites and blogs, or even never learned how to update them!

For creative entrepreneurs like photographers, wedding professionals, and artists, a up to date blog and portfolio on a professional looking website is key to getting clients.

Web admin was a skill I had been taking for granted. I wasn’t a programmer or developer, and I always just assumed that was the only way you could get into this space. That is until I took on the biggest project of my web career, the brand new website and shop for VIM Products, one of the companies I work for in my day job. Working within the WordPress & WooCommerce platforms and with a developer for a few custom pieces of code, we created a new site with a store that made 13k in its first month online. Only then did I realize, I might have something to offer.

Projects like that are hardly my passion. My goal is not to get a bunch of big manufacturing clients or online resellers, but knowing I can do the work is liberating.

I want to help people who are like me. Trying to make a business out of the work they love. Blogging, SEO, and web admin is a way I can help others express themselves. I enjoy being part of the process. I like this stuff for the same reason I like wedding planning, it allows me to contribute in a meaningful way to the lives of others.
